As children we all experienced the open and wondrous state of innocence. But what has happened to us as adults? The answer is that we have become hardened through habit, routine, trauma, and knowledge; we have lost our innocence. This week you’re being asked to be open to life again – just as a child is. But you don’t need to be childish to experience innocence. There is a difference between childishness and childlikeness. Mature and conscious innocence is a state of childlikeness in which we are open, receptive, and filled with awe toward the miracle that is our existence. Childishness, on the other hand, is a regression to childhood and a refusal to grow up or take responsibility for one’s happiness. Strive to find moments of pleasure and joy in the simple things this week. Notice where your mind or heart has become hardened and narrow and be honest with yourself. Growth and transformation can only come when we’re willing to be open and innocent to life. The more obstinate and critical we are, the more stagnant and static we become. So make your goal this week to see life through innocent and fresh eyes. You may be surprised by what you see, experience or find!
